నిఖిల జగములేలు ఱేఁడు నిన్ను నేలకుండునా?
నిఖిల మెఱుగు సర్వసాక్షి నిన్ను నెఱుఁగకుండునా?

Nikhila jagamu lelu redu, ninnu nela kundunaa?
Nikhilamerugu sarvasaakshi ninnu neruga kundunaa?
నిఖిల జీవరక్షకుండు నిన్ను గావకుండునా?
నిఖిల భువననాయకుండు నిన్ను నడపకుండునా?
Nikhila jeeva rakshakundu ninnu gaava kundunaa?
Nikhila bhuvana naayakundu, ninnu nadapakundunaa?
నిఖిలమతని కప్పగింప నిన్ను మెచ్చకుండునా?
నిఖిల మతని దనియె యనిన నీకు దుఃఖముండునా?
Nikhila mathani kappagimpa, ninnu mecchakundunaa?
Nikhilamathani daniye anina, neeku dukhamundunaa?
నిండి యంతటుండు వాడు నీలో నుండకుండునా?
నిండు మదిని నతని గొల్వ నీకు లోపముండునా?
Nindi anthatundu vaadu, neelonunda kundunaa?
Nindu madini nathani golva, neeku lopamundunaa?
A simple interpretation of this Bhajan by Sri Adipudi Somanatha Rao would be that it illustrates the supremacy of God. It allays the anxieties, neuroses and psychoses of the Doubting Thomases in all of us. The all-encompassing Lord works in his just and benevolent ways. It is our limited minds and capacities that cause us to doubt and fear due to our limited vision.
The Bhajan begins - The Lord is as the word itself says The Lord, The Ruler of all the worlds. ( The vast universe speckled with the swirling worlds over unimaginable voids springs up in my mind...or perhaps the worlds as in those inhabited by the creatures of the air, water, earth, beyond ...or the spirtual worlds, mindscapes...There is a Designer and Admin overseeing them all, The Supreme Being) Will not this Ruler know about you , your existence, your purpose. You might feel puny in your shoes right now but The Omniscient One who rules, and takes care of such a huge enterprise sure keeps track of you too. You count, You matter in his dispensation.
The One who protects and provides for all the creatures in his sovereign, will he not protect you and harbor you ? He leads the entire Universe, guides the heavens and Earth, will he not guide you?
Surrender to The One ( Ishvara Pranidhaan - Dedicate all ones actions and their fruits to God) and you will be enhanced. When you decide that God is the source of everything in this world then everything becomes a source of joy. Your sorrows are gone. The challanges and sorrows become windows into discovering capabilties you never knew you had. The confidence of being blessed and protected lets one explore joys and sorrows with an equanimity of mind, accepting what one sows with grace.
The last stanza is about the omnipresence of God. He is everywhere, so how can you be ever devoid of him? He is inside, outside, around, everywhere. It goes with his job description which says he is the only creator, manager, destroyer and sole owner of all rights over this world. So if you belong to him how can you be flawed. How can you lack for anything when you give up all you have to him?
That last line is deep.

ReplyDeleteThis is a bhajan by Adipudi Somanatha Rao's book on Panchayagnas. It has been reproduced in Vaidkia Dinacharya (Pt. Gopadev Shastri) and many other later compilations.
